After the centennial anniversary of Wrigley Field was celebrated, an edible replica of the field somehow ended up in the trash.
After it was displayed during the Cubs’ home game Wednesday, April 23, 2014, the cake was sent to The Field Museum for a charity event, according to our sister station WGN-TV.
Because it had been on display all day outside Wrigley Field and later at the museum, the decision was made not to serve the edible portion of the cake.
After the charity event, the 400-pound cake ended up in a dumpster at the museum.
Even though it wasn’t served, the Cubs expressed disappointment over the cake being dumped.
“Though the cake was mostly made up of non-edible material, it certainly does not excuse how a celebratory cake, artfully created by Buddy Valastro and Carlo’s Bakery, was handled,” said a statement released by the Chicago Cubs.
The museum has issued an apology.
