QC Tennis Club director ‘impressed’ with area players, hopes to expand club

The Quad Cities Tennis Club director has been serving in his new position for a little over a month and is on a mission.

The Quad Cities Tennis Club director has been serving in his new position for a little over a month and is on a mission.

Ryan Roeth said he is “very impressed” with how many Quad Citians are involved in tennis. There are all ages out there playing, from junior players to older players and varying skill levels.

“To be in a town of this size and have nine indoor courts is a fantastic thing and there is an increasing amount of adult play from leagues to lessons, walk-in clinics... that’s an impressive amount of activity,” said Roeth.

Since he has taken the position of director, Roeth said he has been trying to learn the city and figure out what tennis is like in the area.

“The amazing thing is the amount of levels,” he said. “They are beginners, they are not beginners, they are very solid players.”

Roeth said the club has athletes who are trying to play in college or professionally, and those who just want to exercise and release some stress.

In the future, Roeth hopes to get some new programs in the club and get kids interested in tennis at a young age. If kids can start around ages 7 – 9, and continue through high school, the skills they learn can help them in the real world, Roeth said.

The director described himself as a fun-easy going coach, but expects as much effort from his players as he gives as a director.
