Rock Island store shooting suspect arrested

A man wanted in connection with a shooting at a store on 11th Street in Rock Island has been arrested.

Police were searching for Brandon Montrece Brooks, 32, of Rock Island, after another man was shot in the leg at the Eleventh Street Mart, 1520 11th Street, just after 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014.  Police said Brooks was charged with aggravated battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

The day after the shooting, Rock Island Police Deputy Chief Jason Foy said Brooks was arrested during a traffic stop on Interstate 80.

“Brooks was stopped at approximately 2:46 p.m. today (April 23) by the Illinois State Police, in LaSalle County on Interstate 80 near mile marker 73,”  Foy said.  “He was taken into custody without incident.”

Brooks was held in the LaSalle County Jail in lieu of $300,000 bond.
