A cornerstone company in Sterling is investing millions of dollars into a new corporate headquarters building.

Wahl Clipper Corp., which develops and manufactures home and professional grooming products, announced Thursday, April 17, 2014 that it will invest almost $8.5 million into its new 40,000-square-foot building. Construction was set to begin in spring 2014.

As one of the largest employers in northwest Illinois, Wahl has nearly 900 workers and has pledged to create at least five jobs. It also plans to keep its current 114 headquarters staff positions, according to a spokesperson from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO).

To tackle this large project, Wahl has gotten tax credit approved by the DCEO. This will allow Wahl to reduce their Illinois income tax liability if they expand operations within the state.

“This new facility provides us with a number of great advantages,” said CEO Greg Wahl. “First, it frees up a great deal of space in our current facilities to allow us to continue to grow and prosper. It will also provide a state of the art corporate facility as a showplace to our worldwide customer base.”

The company is 95 years old and employs about 2,000 people around the world. Its products are sold in 165 countries.
