Volunteer firefighter accused of setting fires in Knox County

A Williamsfield volunteer firefighter is accused of setting hay bales and grass fields on fire in Knox County, Illinois.

A Williamsfield volunteer firefighter is accused of setting hay bales,grass fields and trash bins on fire in Knox County, Illinois.

Blake T. Walsh, 24, of Williamsfield, Illinois, was arrested Wednesday, April 16, 2014, in connection with a "series of arsons involving hay bales and grass fields which primarily occurred in the Williamsfield area," according to a statement from the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

Galesburg police and fire departments were also investigating two dumpster fires which they determined had been intentionally set, the statement said.

Investigators from the county, Galesburg police and fire departments and the Williamsfield Fire Department determined Walsh was the suspect in the fires.

Walsh is a volunteer firefighter for the Williamsfield Fire Department according to the sheriff's department.

The Williamsfield Fire Protection District serves an area in eastern Knox and western Peoria counties according to their website.

Walsh was charged with arson, and he was held in the Knox County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
