After a night of vandalism that led to destruction near campus and an injury, the president of Iowa State University formed a task force to help determine the future of the school’s annual celebration, Veishea.
ISU reported that President Steven Leath announced the task force members on Thursday, April 17, 2014. It is made up of 20 faculty and staff as well as officials in the community. To see the full list, click here.
WHO reported that one night during the week of Veishea 2014, a car was overturned, stop signs were stolen, and light poles were torn down, one of which fell and hit someone in the head causing serious injury. A crowd also reportedly threw bottles at officers who were called to the scene.
After the incident, Leath decided to cancel the rest of the week’s festivities associated with Veishea.
ISU said the task force will study the role and relevance of Veishea. The group’s leader, senior vice president for student affairs Tom Hill, was working to schedule the first meeting and ask members to submit recommendations regarding the celebration throughout May and June.
