Renaissance Rock Island will celebrate the recent openings of ten new businesses on Thursday, April 17, 2014.

Jaded Gypsy Tattoo, the NormaLeah Ovarian Cancer Foundation, Rumors Lounge and Night Club, and The Smoking Dog Pub are just a couple of the new businesses involved in the ribbon cutting. The Smoking Dog Pub replaces Malarkey's in The District.

The store Panther Uniforms has been in The District since 1984. Recently, owner Cindy Colmer moved back to her original site in the downtown. She says more young people are starting to come back to downtown Rock Island.

"I think it's exciting that there are new people who are trying to put their feet into entrepreneurship and opening their own business," Colmer said.

The District has been in a revitalization mode for more than a year now. In the summer of 2013, bars in The District closed, causing concerns from some residents.

Thursday's ribbon cutting starts at 2 p.m. at Be Well QC, a business incubators, with fiver merchants inside. The business is located at 150 16 1/2 Street.
