A Muscatine man was sentenced to prison after he pleaded guilty to a sex offense involving a preschool-age child.

Andrew Scott Mayfield, 29, pleaded guilty Tuesday, February 18, 2014 to lascivious acts with a child according to Muscatine County Attorney Alan Ostergren.

Police said Mayfield fondled the genitals of a preschool-aged child.

Mayfield had already violated requirements to register as a sex offender, in connection with a previous case in Illinois, when the Muscatine incident happened, Ostergren said.  Mayfield pleaded guilty to one count of lascivious acts with a child and one count of sex offender registry violation.

Mayfield was sentenced April 16, 2014 to a total prison term not to exceed 12 years, Ostergren said.

“(Mayfield) will be on supervised release as if on parole for the remainder of his life following his prison sentence,” Ostergren said.  Mayfield will also have to register in Iowa as a sex offender.
