Fire crews rescue pup stuck in storm drain

St. Louis firefighters may have been caught off guard when they were called to save a puppy that was trapped in a drain.

St. Louis firefighters may have been caught off guard when they were called to save a puppy that was trapped in a drain.

KTVI reported that Cocoa Young, the owner of a two month old teacup Chihuahua ironically named Storm, said the puppy tried to jump over a storm drain in the yard and got stuck.

When the call came in on Tuesday morning, April 15, 2014, firefighters were a bit surprised.

“It’s not something we deal with normally,” says St. Louis Firefighter Adam Solomon.  “You don’t train every day for a puppy in a well.  It’s more house fires and medical for humans.”

Crews tried to bait the pup toward the hole to get him in sight, but he wasn’t too cooperative.

To help get the puppy out, crews started pumping water but Solomon said he was afraid he would float past crews and get into the actual sewer system. Using a cinch, crews were able to rescue the pup.

Young was thankful to have her furry friend back in her arms, and the vet was their next trip to get the puppy checked out.
