The John Deere Classic will be here before you know it, and a fundraising event connected with the annual golf tournament has kicked-off.
Birdies for Charity started-up Wednesday, April 16, 2014. What happens is individuals or corporations can submit a guess for how many birdies they think the golfers in the John Deere Classic will make at the tournament. Guessers must pledge a minimum of one cent per birdie made.
“A lot of people think it’s only about the athletic contest,” said tournament director Clair Peterson. “Really our main mission is to raise money for charities.”
In 2013 Birdies for Charity raised more than $6 million for 464 local charities. A spokesperson from Birdies for Charity calls it the “most powerful fundraising program in the region.”
If you would like to participate in Birdies for Charity, information can be found on the fundraiser’s website.
The John Deere Classic was set to run from July 7 – 13.
