Project Renewal hosted their 10th annual races on Saturday at Sister Concetta Park in Davenport.
The half-mile Treat House Trot and 5k Run both started and finished at the park, winding through the historic downtown neighborhood.
The organization helps at-risk youth by providing after school activities, such as homework help, field trips, and other outdoor recreational fun.
"It's a place where they can be a kid but also have the support from positive role models," said Ann Schwickerath, Project Renewal director.
Sister Concetta Park is located across the street from Project Renewal and is often used by kids in the program. That's why the organization has teamed up with Palmer College of Chiropractic to revitalize the park, aiming to add a new playground, an amphitheater, and a patio; a total cost of around $65,000.
Races like today will help fund the park revitalization and other after school activities for Project Renewal.
"I think everybody runs with a happy heart knowing that all their race dollars are going to help this great charity," said Michelle Solis Russell, President of Live Uncommon, one of the race endorsers. "It's a tough course but I ran with so much joy knowing every step I took was for the greater good and for the benefit of these kids at project renewal."
