Body recovered after canoe capsizes on Mississippi River

Crews were searching for a missing man in the Mississippi River after a canoe containing four people capsized.

One person died after a canoe he was in capsized on the Mississippi River.

According to a spokesperson from Scott County Sheriff’s Office, a canoe that was carrying four people capsized on the Mississippi River near Princeton, Iowa shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014.

The sheriff's office said that three of the four people on the canoe were able to swim to shore, but the fourth person went missing.

Police officers, fire crews, and a dive team were called to assist in the search efforts. Around 5:15 p.m. the body was recovered.

The victim's name was being withheld pending family notification.

Le Claire, Camanche, Port Byron, and Albany Fire Departments were helping with the search, along with the Iowa DNR, Le Claire Police and Med-Force Helicopter Ambulance.
