Moline students help Washington tornado cleanup efforts

Dozens of Moline High School students spent their weekend helping some fellow Illinoisans.

On Saturday, April 12, 2014 the students arrived in Washington, Illinois to assist with the cleanup efforts, months after a tornado ravaged the town.

The community was flattened on Sunday, November 17 when an EF-4 tornado tore through. Homes were destroyed, families were displaced, dozens were injured and one was killed.

“They really need more help so anyone who would like to join in, go to Lutheran Church Charities and they have volunteer days set up,” said Robin Heiar from Moline High School. “One is coming up at the end of April on April 26and another one is on May 10.”

The high school students that went to help also gave a quilt to a secretary in the Washington school district whose home was destroyed in the November storm.
