Watch: Local candidate’s ad seen as part shock and part awe

A local Independent candidate for U.S. Senate is, literally, pulling out the guns for his campaign.

A local Independent candidate for the U.S. Senate launched an unconventional campaign ad online. That content is helping generate plenty of buzz.

Bob Quast from Bluegrass, Iowa and a former Rock Island Arsenal employee is now trying to jump into politics.

He is, literally, pulling out the guns for his campaign.

However, what might be more shocking than what you'll see in the video is what you're going to hear. Some potential voters in November, 2014, told News 8 they found it hard to listen to Quast's message of term limits and the right to bear arms through the gun and knife flashing.

"I lost the message somewhere between the pig and the dog and the gun," said one Scott County resident.

While others like Quast's approach, one voter said, "I think he went about it better than others would."

Quast told us his video had reached more than a million people and generated an overwhelming amount of support.  He also said he plans to release more videos centered on his top ten issues soon.
