Four businesses were damaged from a pre-dawn fire in downtown Galesburg, Illinois.

Fire reportedly started at about 3 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 in the 100 block of East Main Street.

Witnesses said flames were seen coming from the roof of Blossoms, a florist shop at 138 East Main.  Businesses on either side of Blossoms were also reportedly damaged by the fire.

The fire was actually centered in a vacant store at 148 East Main Street and the former CASA office at 140 East Main Street according to a later statement from Galesburg Fire Chief Tom Simkins.  Smoke damaged Azer Medical Supply at 156 East Main Street and Blossoms at 138 East Main Street, which are on either side of the fire addresses.

Heavy smoke and intense heat forced firefighters out of the burning building, and they used an aerial platform to put out the fire.  It took crews about an hour to completely extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire was not yet determined.

An online post from Blossoms Florist said they would be closed April 8 but planned to reopen April 9, and that damage to their business was minimal.
