UPDATE: The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office reported on Sunday, April 6th, 2014 that the name of the male driver is James A. Jones, 60, from Fulton, Illinois.
The accident remains under investigation at this time.
EARLIER STORY: One person died after a reported three-vehicle crash in Jo Daviess County.
According to the Jo Daviess Sheriff, a male driver died while attempting to pass another car on Highway 20 near Galena Ridge Drive in Stockton on Friday, April 4, 2014.
The sheriff’s office said the crash happened around 11:45 p.m. when a male driving eastbound in a no-passing zone tried to pass another car also heading eastbound. While trying to pass, his car collided head-on with a semi tractor-trailer in the westbound lane.
The driver attempting to pass was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. The other eastbound driver was airlifted to an area hospital and the semi-truck driver was taken to the hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
