Hit-and-run leaves unidentified man with serious injuries

Police were trying to identify a man who was found after he had apparently been struck by a vehicle in Sterling, Illinois.

Police were trying to identify a man who was found after he had apparently been struck by a vehicle in Sterling, Illinois.

The man was unresponsive when he was found in the 300 block of West 5th Street just after 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014.  Police said the man had been struck by a vehicle sometime in the hour just before he was found.

The man's injuries were considered serious.  He was taken by ground ambulance to a local hospital and later airlifted to a hospital in Rockford.

The victim is a black man who appeared to be between 20 and 40 years old according to Sterling Police.  He has facial hair and tattoos on his chest and arm.
