Fire quickly spread and burned through a field along 92nd Avenue in Maysville, Iowa.
Firefighters said it only took a few minutes for them to knock down flames that were first reported at about noon Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in the 23000 block of 92nd Avenue.
The burned field was across the road from several homes.
One firefighter on the scene said the burned area stretched about 600 yards, from 92nd Avenue to the edge of a wooded area. Only grass was burned; firefighters managed to put out the fire before it burned any of the nearby trees.
The cause of the fire was not officially determined. Firefighters speculated it was possibly started by a discarded lit cigarette.
No injuries were reported.
