“When you were a kid, were you called a nerd and how did you deal with it?”
That’s the question a fan asked Star Trek actor Wil Wheaton at Denver’s 2013 Comic Con.
Wheaton used video of his response to support his recent blog post about confidence, compassion and bullies.
“We can’t help it that we like these (nerdy) things,” Wheaton said, “and shouldn’t apologize for liking these things.”
Bottom line, Wheaton says, whether a person makes fun of you or is cool with you is not about you. It’s about them.
Mia, the girl who asked the question, also met Wheaton again at the Kansas City Comic Con according to a post from her dad that Wheaton shared on his blog.
“Wil Wheaton, you are an honorary member of this family and I hope you know that you have made a real impact on Mia and the rest of us silly nerds,” her father wrote.
“(I)t reminds me how important it is to do everything we can to be awesome,” Wheaton wrote.
