St. Ambrose University leaders are holding a meeting Monday, March 31, 2014 on their proposed new athletic complex.
St. Ambrose would like to build a $20-$25 million complex near the St. Vincent's Center building and Assumption High School on West Central Park Avenue. The university is proposing a 2,500 seat stadium, fit for both soccer and football. They'd also like upgrades to the softball field and two practice fields that are at the site.
Architects have released a new virtual video of what this stadium could look like. SAU leaders also have reduced the size of their plan since talking with neighbors. Residents nearby have concerns about water runoff and traffic. Both sides met in January to talk about the issue.
"We had a 5,000 seat stadium," SAU Vice President of Finances Mike Poster said. "We've cut that down to 2,500. We've moved the stadium to the middle of the complex."
Monday's meeting is geared toward supporters of the plan, but anyone is welcome to attend. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Rogalski Center on the SAU Campus. The Davenport Planning and Zoning Commission could review the plans in May.
