A 51-year-old Keokuk man reportedly confessed to police after he was accused of driving while under the influence of synthetic marijuana.
Police said they stopped a white Chevy Silverado truck, driven by Craig Kehler of Keokuk, just after 10:30 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2014, and that Kehler’s driver’s license was suspended.
The police report said Kehler appeared to be high, and that he “was shaking, had clenched fists, and ground his teeth.”
A police dog alerted officers to drugs in the truck, and police said they found “numerous bags of recently purchased synthetic drugs and smoking pipes” in the truck.
Police said Kehler confessed to traveling to Iowa City to buy drugs, and to spending $800 that night on synthetic marijuana.
The report filed by police said Kehler told officers he uses synthetic marijuana in place of the real thing because, he believes, it would not show in a urine test.
Kehler was charged with driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance.
Jail records show Kehler was later released on his own recognizance from the Johnson County Jail.
