Online child pornography investigation leads to man’s prison sentence

A Wapello, Iowa man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography.

United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt said 39-year-old Shannon Wade Watson pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography in November of 2013 and was sentenced on Friday, March 28, 2014.

Klinefeldt said in July of 2011 an online investigation conducted by a Scott County Deputy and a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children task force turned-up images of child pornography on Watson’s computer. After police searched Watson’s home in September 2011, more than 300 images of child pornography were found on two thumb drives and a computer hard drive.

According to the Department of Justice, Watson was ordered to serve 15 years of supervised release after he gets out of prison and must pay $100 toward the Crime Victims Fund. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender.
