Hockey fundraiser raises awareness for locally-founded organization

Firefighters teamed up with the community for a fundraiser benefitting Addi’s Faith Foundation, which aims to raise awareness of childhood cancer.

The Quad City Fire Hockey team held their 6th annual charity tournament at the iWireless Center in Moline on Sunday, March 30, 2014. They were joined by members of the Chicago Fire Hockey team as well.

After a Quad City couple lost their one-year-old daughter, Addi, to a brain tumor in 2007, they started the nonprofit organization to raise awareness about childhood cancer.

Bender said they fund brain tumor research and provide financial assistance to families battling childhood cancer.

“There’s not a lot of funding that goes toward childhood cancer research and so it really takes organizations like ours and events like this to make a dent in the research that needs to occur,” said Amber Bender, founder of the foundation.
