The deadline to enroll for health coverage through the Affordable Care Act is March 31, 2014.

According to HealthCare.gov, Open Enrollment for 2014 ends Monday, March 31 and reopens again on November 15 for 2015 Open Enrollment.

The website stated that if you do not have health coverage in 2014 you may have to pay a penalty. Penalties are calculated one of two ways: either 1-percent of your yearly household income or $95 per person for the year ($47.50 per child under 18); whichever is higher will be paid. There are ways to get coverage outside of the Open Enrollment dates. Certain life events can make a person eligible for coverage at different times. Events such as getting married, adopting a child, moving, along with other things can make you eligible. Click here for more information.

A poll conducted by The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation found that roughly 60 percent of uninsured people ages 18 – 64 were unaware of the March 31 sign-up deadline. Half said they planned to remain uninsured. Click here to see all the poll results.

According to the Associated Press, the government said it will accept paper applications until April 7.
