The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees could approve a three percent tuition increase for incoming freshmen.

The increase would apply to students at both the Macomb and Quad City campuses. A three percent increase in tuition amounts to about a $200 total increase over two semesters.

'Room and board' in Macomb would also increase by about $300 for incoming freshmen. The Quad City campus does not have any university housing. Soon though, the riverfront campus in Moline will have private housing nearby.

Freshmen at the Macomb campus also may have to pay more in student fees. The university is looking at about a $100 increase for students entering the school this coming fall.

If approved, tuition would not rise again for those students over the next four years. The board meets at 9 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Capitol Rooms in Macomb.
