Fire destroys Whiteside County mobile home

A mobile home north of Prophetstown was destroyed after a blaze took over the structure.

A mobile home north of Prophetstown was destroyed after a blaze took over the structure.

On Thursday, March 27, 2014 crews responded to the fire in Lyndon around 5:30 p.m., according to Prophetstown Fire District Chief Keith Crady. The fire started underneath the mobile home and spread to the rest of it.

One person was home at the time, but escaped the fire, Crady said. There were no reported injuries.

Five departments responded including Morrison and Erie. Crews tanked the water to the site.

“That’s the disadvantage living in the country, it’s a long way from the fire department out to here,” Crady said. He said by the time crews get the water on site, the fire has more than likely grown since the first call.

Investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the fire, but Crady said it may have been an electrical fire.
