Watch: What happens when recalled Walmart dolls overheat and burn

Children burned by overheated circuit boards have prompted Walmart to recall My Sweet Love and My Sweet Baby dolls.

Children burned by overheated circuit boards have prompted Walmart to recall My Sweet Love and My Sweet Baby dolls.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the dolls, which come with a toy medical kit, sold for about $20 at Walmart stores across the U.S. between August 2012 and March 2014.  About 174,000 of the dolls have been sold.

The CPSC says electronics that make the doll babble, make her cheeks turn red and make her cough because she is "sick" can overheat and burn a person handling the doll.

The company has received a dozen reports of incidents, including two reports of burns or blisters to the thumb of children playing with the doll.

A Davenport grandma said she and her grandkids were shocked by the doll.

"My 3-year-old grandson picked up the baby and he threw it and said that baby bit me. I grabbed the baby and I smelled it and I was like, this baby's on fire," said Julia Sird.

The recalled dolls have a package UPC code of 6-04576-16800-5.  A date code beginning with WM is printed on the label sewn into the bottom of the doll.

"Consumers should immediately take the dolls from children, remove the batteries and return the doll to any Walmart store for a full refund," according to the CPSC website.

"It's going to have to be going back to Walmart, it's not going to be in here no more," said Sird.
