Stanford University is nearly 2,000 miles from the Quad Cities, but the Cardinal have packed up a ton of fans here, thanks to Rock Island's own Chasson Randle. The Rock's given something for everyone on both sides of the river to cheer for.
Monday night, March 24, 2014, was the last time Quad City high school seniors put on their uniforms and represented their school at the Iowa-Illinois Senior High School game.
Some of them will go onto college to continue playing basketball, in hopes of being the next Chasson Randle.
"It just shows that a local player from this area can actaully make it to the big time schools and actually succeed," said parent Kathy Strandgard, who's followed Randle's career.
Randle is a 2011 graduate from Rock Island High School. He's now racking up points at Stanford in the NCAA tournament.
"It's just so exciting to see him play in it and know that he's from the area," said Strandgard.
You can see the love for Randle throughout the Quad Cities and you can hear it at the New Style Barbershop in Moline. Most of the shop talk there has been about Randle's game. Barber Robb Colvin use to play basketball with Randle's dad.
"He comes from a talented family," said Colvin.
Randle's talent now inspiring young players.
"I look up to him and he's just a great role model," said Rock Island High School basketball player Cj Carr.
Giving the whole Quad Cities something to cheer about, not just Rock Island.
"Him being so successful has made the whole quad cities proud," said Bettendorf High School basketball player, Dylan Sortillo.
