A community has come together in support of an Illinois father fighting cancer.
Single dad and longtime volunteer, Brian Lough from Andover was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2012. He has gone through treatments and surgeries ever since, and in February he learned the cancer spread to his lungs and pelvis.
On Saturday March 22, 2014 an auction was held in Coal Valley to help Lough and his 13-year-old son Parker.
The auction included gas grills, quilt racks, Isabel Blooms, concert tickets, and more. There was also a 50/50 raffle and entertainment provided.
Lough has lived a life of service, volunteering with the Orion Ambulance Service, Osco-Andover Fire Department, and Henry County Sheriff’s Department.
“Once you get it in your blood, you just can't get out of it; anything to help the community with whatever they need,” Lough said. “Matter of fact, yesterday there were some people broke down from South Dakota on the side of the road and I stopped and helped them and got them back on the road and when on my way.”
