Third Sheley trial on track for May

The trial of accused spree killer Nicholas Sheley is on track for May in Rock Island County.

The trial of accused spree killer Nicholas Sheley is on track for May in Rock Island County.

At a pre-trial hearing on Wednesday, March 19, attorneys for both sides in the case told Judge Jeffrey O'Connor they are prepared to begin the process of picking a jury on May 9th in Rock Island.

Sheley, in shackles and guarded by three Department of Corrections officers and a half dozen sheriff's deputies, said nothing during the brief hearing.

Sheley is accused of killing four people in Rock Falls in June of 2008. The case was transferred from Whiteside County to Rock Island after concerns that an impartial jury couldn't be found in the community where the crimes were committed.

Sheley has already been convicted of two murders. He will still face a trial for two murders in Missouri.
