Whiteside County Sales Tax fails

Whiteside County voters said ‘no’ to a one-percent increase in the county’s sales tax.

Whiteside was one of several Illinois counties considering a “retailers’ occupation tax” to help fund capital improvements to schools.

With all 60 precincts reporting, the measure was defeated 59% to 41%.  There were 3,183 votes against the measure and 2,347 in favor.
