Staley and Howard to face off in race to be Mercer County Sheriff

Primary voters chose Republican George Howard and Democrat David Staley to run against each other to become the next sheriff.

Sheriff Tom Thompson retired.  William “Bill” Glancey has served as interim sheriff.

In the Democratic primary, Staley won with 39% of the vote.  He received 556 votes, defeating Jeffrey Dale who got 430 votes and Caryn Brokaw to received 423 votes.

George Howard won the Republican primary with 58% of the votes.  Howard received 785 votes versus 566 cast for his opponent, Christopher DeFrieze.
