Incumbent Democrat Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is the projected winner of the March 18 primary to run for re-election.
Quinn took an early lead over opponent Tio Hardiman after polls closed in Illinois. He held 78% of all votes cast after more than 20% of precincts reported vote totals, around an hour after polls closed.
After more than 80% of all ballots were counted, Quinn's lead was a margin of more than two to one. At that time, Quinn had 73% of all votes cast versus Hardiman's 21%.
Our sister station WGN-TV projected Quinn as the winner.
