Henry County Public Safety tax increase fails

Voters in Henry County, Illinois made it clear: no new taxes.

The county asked residents to authorize a half-cent sales tax on all retail sales in Henry County, with the money earmarked for “crime prevention, detention and other public safety purposes” according to the March 18 election ballot.

With 100% of precincts reporting, 79% of all voters said ‘no’ to the public safety proposition.  The unofficial final vote count was 4,288 against the increase and 1,169 in favor.
