Tom Cross was projected to defeat Bob Grogan in a race to be the next treasurer of Illinois.

Tom Cross defeated Bob Grogan in a race to be the next treasurer of Illinois.

Cross and Grogan competed to replace Republican Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford, who was one of four men vying for the Republican nomination to run for governor.  Rutherford ended up in last place after all votes were counted in the Republican gubernatorial race.

Cross represented the 97th District in the Illinois House of Representatives.

Cross received 57% of the vote with more than 392,000 votes cast for him. Grogan held 43% with more than 291,500 votes cast.

Our sister station WGN-TV projected Cross the winner of the race with about 60% of all precincts reporting.  Cross’ lead at that time was 59% to 41% over Grogan.
