Carroll County’s proposed one-percent retail sales tax increase lost by 100 votes.
Unofficial totals after all 22 precincts reported were 1,460 votes, or 52%, against the measure and 1,360 votes, or 48%, in favor.
Money raised from the tax increase would have been earmarked for use exclusively for school facilities.
