Police say an Illinois man was intoxicated when he wrecked on Interstate 80 in LeClaire just before 9 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014.

Jeremy Stone, 40, of Chicago, was westbound on I-80 when his vehicle left the road at the 305.5 mile marker.  Initial reports indicated the vehicle may have gone airborne as it went off the highway.  The vehicle came to rest in a cornfield.

“A witness, who is a registered nurse, saw the vehicle and stopped to offer aide before emergency personnel arrived,” said LeClaire Police Chief Shane Themas.  The nurse was allegedly assaulted by Stone.

Stone was pulled from the vehicle and taken to an area hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later released to police.

Stone was arrested for assault on a healthcare provider, OWI first offense, failure to maintain control and no insurance.

Stone was held in the Scott County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bond.
