St. Patrick’s Day Marked by Marchers and Runners

Among the groups in the parade is an organization dedicated to a new bride who was killed in an accident

It wasn't the warmest St. Patrick's Day, but it wasn't the coldest either.

The annual celebration of "all things Irish" took over two downtown areas in the Quad Cities Saturday, March 15, 2014.

It started with the annual CASI race that raises money for the Center for Active Seniors, Inc.  Then came the 29th annual "Grand Parade" that started in Rock Island before traveling over the Centennial Bridge to Davenport.

Among the many participants was a group of people riding a float made by the RWK Foundation.  It stands for "Ride with Kelly."

Kelly McQuate was a Quad City wife and mother who was killed by a drunk driver on her honeymoon in 2009.  In her memory, the group raises money for area children.

"It's very important to get the word out on behalf of the RWK foundation to let the Quad Cities know that we are here to help children that have lost a parent or sibling," said organizer Kelly Reiling.

Money raised helps children find counseling.

As of last year, the RWK Foundation has been able to donate around $20,000 to families in the Quad Cities.
