An iceberg that was more than ten feet tall stood in the Rock River at Moline for several hours before melting away.
It was a breathtaking sight in the Quad Cities on Saturday, March 15, 2014.
"That's amazing. I've never seen anything like that and probably never will again," said Jon Declerck, who drove from Aledo, Illinois to sneak a peak.
The iceberg was located near the Croatian Club in Moline. It was just one large piece of ice that formed after the ice jam that happened a day earlier. That ice jam flooded along the north shore and several people were evacuated.
"At one point I think the water rose about two feet in 15 minutes," said Trish Arnold, who lives off the north shore.
Trish said she noticed the iceberg Friday and immediately began taking pictures.
"It just kept building and building," she said, "it was huge," said Trish as she points to what remains of the iceberg.
Around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the last of the iceberg melted away and was pushed down stream. Trish says she's relieved it broke away without causing damage.
