Police say an Illinois man tried to lure someone he thought was a teenage girl into meeting him at a Clinton hotel to have sex.

The man later learned the “girl” was an undercover police investigator.

Francisco Anthony Gonzales, 39, of Dolton, Illinois was arrested at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in Clinton, Iowa.

An affidavit filed by police said between February 2013 and March 2014, Gonzales used teen video chat, Yahoo instant messenger, Facebook and a cell phone to talk to “a person he reasonably believed to be fourteen years old and eventually fifteen years old.”  The affidavit goes on to accuse Gonzales of talking with the supposed teen about taking her to Clinton hotel to have sex.  They arranged to meet near the 2600 block of North 4th Street in Clinton.

When Gonzales arrived there March 11, he was arrested.

Court records show Gonzales was charged with one felony count of enticing a minor under 16 for the purpose of sex.

Gonzales was held in the Clinton County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash-only bond.
