Family of missing Rock Island man hoping for the best

His family says Alberto Alvarez would not just pick up and leave without notifying them about where he was going.

Alberto Alvarez is a husband, father, and a grandfather missing since Sunday, March 9, 2014, and his family says he would not just pick up and leave without notifying them about where he was going.

"He was going to go visit a friend, they had some business to talk about church," said Alvarez's sister-in-law, Diana Trejo.

"We're Jehovah's Witnesses, and he was going to go talk about something. Sunday evening at 5 was the last time his wife saw him. Obviously, we are very concerned. Very worried," she said.

Alvarez left his house in the 4600 block of 8th Avenue without his cell phone or medication for his diabetes, which his family says was "unusual," but they say he would not leave them hanging about his whereabouts.

Next door neighbor Gina Block called Mr. Alvarez "a family man" who is always first to lend a hand.

"He's been my next-door neighbor for years. I had no idea he was missing. This is a shock. I'm about ready to cry. He is such a good man," she said.

"He owns a landscaping company, he's always working. He helps out the neighborhood, when there's too much snow on the road, or in the alley, he's got plows. He plows for us. He's not the type to just up and leave, he's got so much here. He's got his wife, children, his business," Block said.

Alvarez was last seen driving his 2000 Black Ford Excursion.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Rock Island Police Department.
