Dozens of Quad City-area homebuyers looking to buy a vacant home may be eligible for a grant to use toward their purchase.
The Illinois Homebuyer Rehabilitation Assistance Program will offer money for homebuyers who buy vacant homes in certain locations. The state program is aimed at helping area families afford a home and encourage the reuse of vacant properties.
“All of our hard-working families deserve an opportunity for homeownership and this new program will help make that possible,” said Illinois Governor Pat Quinn. “When we help more Illinois families afford homes, we also stabilize our communities and help drive economic growth across our state.”
A spokesperson from the Office of the Governor said more than $1.5 million has been granted to the Quad City area, and 58 homebuyers have the opportunity to get their hands on that money.
Applicants looking to purchase a home in Moline should contact the City of Moline at 309-524-2034; 18 homebuyers will receive grants. Anyone looking to purchase a Rock Island County home should contact the Rock Island Economic Growth Corporation at 309-788-6311; 29 homebuyers will receive grants. Homebuyers looking in Bureau, Carroll, LaSalle, Lee, Marshall, Ogle, Putnam, Stark, and Whiteside Counties should contact the Tri-County Opportunities Council at 815-625-7830; 11 grants were available for this area.
Sixteen nonprofit organizations received a portion of $6.6 million from the Illinois Housing Development Authority to help homebuyers who have low to moderate incomes. Click here to see a list of maximum annual income limits for applicants.
The program is open to first-time and veteran homebuyers.
