St. Ambrose University and Bettendorf resident Lori McFate have organized a bone marrow donor drive for Quad Citians on Friday, March 7th, 2014.

McFate needed a bone marrow transplant several years ago. She received it from a German man named Michael Henkel. Back in December of 2013, the two met for the very first time.

That's why McFate organized Friday's event. People can find out later whether their DNA matches another persons' that needs a bone marrow donation. McFate says it's important to get people on the bone marrow registry list.

"It's fast. It's quick, and it's easy. It's painless," McFate said of the bone marrow donor drive. "A ten second cheek swab will put you on the registry. You never know when there will be a cancer patient that will be waiting on their perfect match."

Anyone aged 18-55 can sign up on Friday. The event goes until 3 p.m. at the Rogalski Center on the St. Ambrose campus.
