Investigators suspect local people in 3 bank robberies

Investigators think the same person or people are behind three bank robberies in two towns in Iowa.

The first robbery happened February 27, 2013, at Citizens State Bank, 101 West Broadway Street in Oxford Junction.  Police say the robber got away in a blue and silver-colored, 1993 to 1994 era pickup truck like this one:

That same bank was hit again July 30, 2013.  In that robbery, the getaway vehicle was a white 1994 to 2001-era Dodge Ram pickup truck with black “Dodge Ram” lettering on the tailgate and an American Flag painted across the entire back window.

The third robbery was reported January 31, 2-14 at Ohnward Bank and Trust at 4726 50th Avenue in Baldwin, Iowa.  In that case, the getaway vehicle was described as a 1992 to 1995 era white Chevy pickup truck with a three-inch red stripe down the side like this one:

In all three robberies, the suspect reportedly wore fake facial hair to help disguise his identity.  He was described as possibly around 40 years old and heavy-set, although police say that appearance may also have been faked as part of a disguise.  In all three robberies, the suspect was reportedly armed with a handgun.

Investigators think the suspect or suspects are probably local people familiar with the area, since they make their getaway on rural gravel roads on which it would be easy to get lost if you were not familiar with them.

Each of the banks is offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in connection with the robberies.

Anyone with information about the robberies, or who might be able to help identify the suspect or suspects, is asked to contact Maquoketa Law Center at (563) 652-2468.
