A driver died in a wreck that police say happened when he lost control of his car on a snow-covered road.

Daniel Johnson, 59, of Belvidere, Illinois was northbound on Illinois Route 96 when he lost control of his 1998 Honda Accord just south of Nauvoo at about 8:45 a.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014.

Johnson’s car went off the right side of the road, struck a tree, veered back across both lanes of IL 96 and went off the left side of the road before going over an embankment.

Police said Johnson was killed in the crash.  Johnson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck.
