Drummers from all over gathered together in Rock Falls, Illinois to play.

Sunday, March 2, 2014 was a day for drummers of all ages to share their love for percussion. At Rock Falls High School drumline members from the Knights Drum and Bugle Corps came to perform at Percussion Palooza; some even drove from Florida and Oregon to come to the event.

For nearly 30 years, the Knights were an accomplished drum corps, placing 15th at the Drum Corps International, World Championships.

At Sunday’s Palooza, Ramiro Martinez, the Percussion Instructor for the hosting group – Rhythm Quest, said the group was able to reassemble and share their percussion wisdom with middle school and high school percussionists.

“Drummers really bond together,” said Martinez. “It is a brotherhood between drummers.”

The event consisted of a solo and ensemble contest, clinics, and a performance by the contest winners.

Martinez said while the palooza acted as a fundraiser for Rhythm Quest, it was also a message to the students to keep music in their lives and not to forget about it after graduation.
