As the sun came up, a group of boys and girls were rowing their way to a new national record.
On Saturday, March 1, 2014 the Y’s Jr. Rowing Team broke the National 19 & under mixed small team record for 100,000 meters. Breaking it by more than 30 minutes, the Y’s team beat the old record of 5 hours, 37 minutes and 47 seconds, which set by the Sarasota team in February of 2011.
Chris Tinsman, a member of the rowing team with the Q.C. Rowing Association said one of the challenges was staying focused for five hours. He attributed Saturday’s success to a great facility, great team, and a great coach.
Their team consisted of 6 boys and 4 girls. As part of the rules to break the record, the girls had to row at least a third of the total distance.
