A local brewery has teamed up with the Center for Active Seniors to make beer with proceeds benefiting the center.

Owney Irish Red Ale was first introduced to the Quad Cities in 2013, and it generated about $2,000 for CASI so they decided to brew it again. Great River Brewery in Davenport held the tapping for Owney on Saturday, March 1, 2014. As CASI’s CEO, Laura Kopp described the tapping event as “a party with a cause.”

Sarah Arp, from CASI’s marketing department said government funding to non-profit organizations providing human services has been declining since 2009. Owney was created as a way to help fund the center.

“It has slowly become one of my favorite beers,” said Kopp. “Not just because of the mission, but because of how good it tastes.”

Owney, an old Irish name for “elderly” was made and distributed to retail locations around the Quad Cities for everyone to purchase.
