News 8 viewers may notice a disruption in their service throughout the beginning of March.

Antenna TV on 8.2 and My TV 8.3 will be impacted through March 10, 2014. Antenna TV on 8.2 may be disrupted between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. The Big 12 basketball game on Saturday, March 1 and again on Saturday, March 8 will be impacted during the first half hour of the games.

A spokesperson from Mediacom explained that twice per year the sun is positioned in line with the ground-based satellites that receive television programming. Interruptions occur because the sun’s energy overpowers the signals transmitted by the satellites.

Program interruptions may appear snowy, pixilated, completely blank, or display a message like “Cannel Not Available” or “One Moment Please.”

WQAD engineers said that some satellites will be impacted as early as noon each day, and others as late as 3:30 p.m. The transit times vary at approximately 5 – 6 minutes each day.

The ABC network feed will have a backup on a different satellite and on-air programming should not be affected.
