Officials say a Davenport man was sentenced to nearly a dozen years in prison for importing a synthetic form of ecstasy known as “shrimp.”
A spokesperson from the Department of Justice said that 27-year-old Christopher B. Engelbrecht was sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, for conspiracy to import a synthetic form of ecstasy.
Engelbrecht was arrested in October of 2012 after an investigation by area law enforcement agencies.
Officials said that from August of 2011 to October of 2012, Engelbrecht conspired to import “shrimp” into the United States and sell the drug.
Once Engelbrecht gets out of prison, he will serve three years of supervised release. He has been in custody of the U.S. Marshals Service since October 2012.
